Ball joints are a conservative motion solution manufactured with thick components to provide increased safety. They provide pipe motion absorption via angular or torsional rotation without inducing pressure thrust force to the system.
Two or three ball joints are installed tandem in a leg of pipe, or a loop, perpendicular to the motion. Two ball joints are satisfactory for most applications—a third joint may be required for large movements or multi axis motions.
Ball joint loops often consume less than 25% of the area of a traditional pipe loop. Small to extreme motions are supported. Ball joint spacing lengths can be adjusted to reduce forces. Packed designs are used for higher pressures and temperatures.
Hyspan is the single source for expansion compensation, seismic connections, and vibration isolation. Only Hyspan manufactures metal bellows expansion joints, packed slip expansion joints, ball joints, and metal hose assemblies. These products provide an unequaled ability to fill applications with the correct product. Hyspan’s sales staff is available to help with product selection and development. Representative organizations for Hyspan are located throughout the world.
